A classic Television commercial for a UNIVAC computer. This commercial is from a 5 February 1956 CBS-TV telecast. It also promotes CBS-TV's weather service.
Pretty cool commercial if you ask me.

Subject: Absolutely great!
There's so much here. We start with Daly from "What's My Line?" switching us over to the "CBS Remote Unit", which gives us some old hurricane footage. We are assured that the new UNIVAC is "actually doing something" about weather!
We are shown the machine operating with spasmodically jerking tape reels and then printing out a dot-matrix weather forecast!
There are plenty of little things, like the Remington Rand logo in chrome on the machine (Makes it look like a 1950s refrigerator) and the gas powered snow shovel!
Loved this commercial. It's almost kind of sweet. Back in the days when they used vaccum tubes and stuff. Thanks for uploading it!
Really neat machines, indeed.
Subject: Wonderful spot.
Amazing, rare stuff; love it.
I used to work on Univac Exec 1100 machines back in the 70s. A few applications are actually still running on Univac in the old telephone companies.
Subject: And you at home need to know this... why?
Okay, here we have this big, honkin' computer. It can compute things, as long as you give it plenty of time. See, we have specially trained hamsters running on specially calibrated wheels, so finding answers will take a bit of time. Kinda like trying to kill someone with a wiffle-ball bat.
But this is what we're doing at Remington Rand. Makes that shaver you bought from us seem mighty smart, huh?
Subject: Great to see!
2,000 calculations per second and the size!
Subject: And memory too
And it had all of 12 K of memory!
This commercial is so cool, and I uploaded it because I felt that you lovely people deserve to see this lovely commercial for a lovely computer.
My friend Joey Wheeler loves this commercial too, he says it's more fun than farting.
